At the Open Health HACKademy, four interdisciplinary teams with students from different disciplines, people with disabilities and makers jointly develop open source hardware solutions, so-called Careables. Because many people with disabilities lack the tools they need to live and work.
The HACKademy started on Friday, March 1, 2019, in the fabLab machbar in Potsdam. Together with about 25 creative minds with skills from different disciplines, we started the weekend with a visual meeting about hidden superpowers. The case providers of the four cases “Eisbrecher”, “Belly Button”, “LazyEye” and “Vorlesegerät” presented their projects to their teams. Subsequently, common goals were set for the first weekend.
On Saturday, March 2, 2019, a Design-Thinking Sprint took place, during which draft sketches as well as first prototypes were presented. From 6 p.m. on a lecture by Dr. Claudia Nicolai, Academic Director of the D.School followed. Finally the whole HACKademy team cooked and discussed the projects further.
On Sunday, March 3, 2019, Deepdive Rapid Manufacturing Workshops provided participants with insight into various technologies such as 3D printing, Arduino, laser cutting and electronics. Afterwards there was a planning meeting for the next week.
The daily colourful breakfast and the delicious lunch were used by everyone as an opportunity to get to know each other better and to grow together as teams. After this successful start we are looking forward to the coming weekend and are very excited about the input and output!
In this sense: stay open minded and get connected.
