Open Health HACKademy #5 + careables.org Global South  Discussion

A device that helps stretch spastic muscle groups without the need for a physical therapist? This is just one example of a challenge that interdisciplinary teams are working on as part of the Open Health HACKademy #5. Ongoing projects as well as successfully published tools from MatchMyMaker will be presented. Afterwards, makers from Brazil and Nepal will also show open source tools they are currently working on. The common goal is to develop freely accessible solutions that make life easier for people with disabilities and limitations.”

At the Open Health HACKademy  open source tools are developed in interdisciplinary teams with people with disabilities, students from technical, medical and social fields, health experts and makers. Due to the corona, the HACKademy mainly takes place digitally. We use Zoom, Miro and Slack for digital exchange . The workshops of the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin are available to us for the implementation of functional prototypes.

Christiano Lopes presenting: Stadiometer: A low price device for basic health care

Cristiano Lopes is a technology enthusiast who seeks to develop solutions for everyday life by combining technology with natural sciences. He has worked on several projects involving education, art, and culture. He is currently a Master’s student in the Postgraduate Program in Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco – UFRPE and coordinating member of outreach affairs for LMI Tapioca a research and outreach group in marine sciences (UFPE, UFRPE and IRD France).

Pallab Shrestha from Nepal Communitere

Pallab is the Technical Lead for Fablab Nepal with a deep and sincere aptitude for innovation and creativity. He has 9 years’ experience around CAD and product design and development . He has played a key role in bringing and installing the first Fablab in Nepal. He has been involved with workshops related to digital fabrication and its uses. He has Masters in Engineering design and Manufacturing. He is also a FabAcademy graduate and is implementing and sharing the knowledge to the Nepalese community via hands-on training and workshops.”
